Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. At the age five she moved to Oxfordshire where she attended The Dragon School. From the age of six Emma knew she was going to become an actress. For several years, she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied the art of acting and dancing. At the age of 10, she had appeared and played part in many Stagecoach productions and school plays. Casting began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered as a casting agent through her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after 8 auditions. They were selected as the three lead characters Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The most successful film of 2001 it set new records for its debut day revenue as well as its opening weekend earnings. Critics were impressed with the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her performance. Emma received five nominations for her impressive performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actress in the Film.
